SUMMARY:Jazz at Peace
DESCRIPTION:Jazz Church West is an Interfaith Worship Celebration held the first Sunday of the month at Peace October through June.  The music begins at 5pm. \n  \nNovember Features Natalie Cressman and Ian Faquini! \nJazz at Peace presents the acclaimed musical duo of Natalie Cressman and Ian Faquini Sunday Nov. 2nd at 5pm.  Describing the musical partnership of Natalie Cressman and Ian Faquini as a duo is accurate\, but their collaboration contains multitudes. She’s a trombonist\, vocalist and songwriter from San Francisco.  He’s a composer\, guitarist\, and singer from Brasilia.  Together they’ve honed a singularly expansive creative communion encompassing their love of the Brazilian songbook\, jazz\, Impressionism and sophisticated pop songcraft.  Their original material features lyrics in Portuguese\, French and English set to music drawing from a vast stylistic spectrum.  With sumptuous two-part vocal harmonies hugging Brazilian-accented Portuguese accompanied by trombone and acoustic guitar\, Cressman and Faquini’s richly orchestrated sound seems to emanate from a much larger ensemble.  Learn more about Natalie on her website or Facebook. \n  \nAll are invited to Jazz at Peace!  The concert is free; free-willing donations keep the music alive.  Also you’re invited to enjoy libations at the Wine Bar after the concert.

SUMMARY:SRVUMC Brian McLaren Event
DESCRIPTION:The San Ramon Valley United Methodist Church invites members of our community to a Sunday afternoon lecture and Q&A by noted author Brian D. McLaren about living humanely while facing the reality of the climate crisis.  The goal is to encourage community dialogue and increase local awareness and action. \nMcLaren\, acclaimed author\, speaker\, and activist\, pulls no punches in addressing frightening realities of our time that center on climate change and consequent economic and civilizational upheaval.  He writes that “we humans have made a mess of our civilization and our planet\, and not enough of us seem to care enough to change deeply enough or quickly enough to save ourselves.” \nOn Sunday\, March 2\, 1:30-4:00 pm\, McLaren will talk about his most recent book\, Life After Doom: Wisdom and Courage for a World Falling Apart\, in which he addresses our response to ecological overreach.  While forms of denial might be the most common response\, McLaren opts for facing reality and embracing the complexity of hope\, the necessity of grief\, and the need for new ways of becoming and belonging in turbulent times. \nThe event includes audience engagement\, book-signing (4:00-5:00 PM)\, and networking with local environmental groups.  It is hosted by San Ramon Valley United Methodist Church at 902 Danville Rd.\, Alamo. \nFor more information see www.srvumc.org/brianmclaren.
